Rumpum Chatpate sustaining Rumpum’s legacy
Amidst the crowded streets of Mid-Baneshwor, lies a small shutter decorated with yellow and red nearby Ratna Rajya School. The outlet labelled as “Shiwakoti Rumpum Chatpate ” is visited by casual passersby throughout the day, mostly school and college students.
Nothing unusual of a sight, is it? Just a normal chatpate and panipur outlet that attracts youngsters. Indeed, it seems to be, until you realize that Rumpum noodles are practically non-existent in Kathmandu. In fact, Rumpum Chatpate might possibly be the only place in Kathmandu that sells Rumpum noodles these days. The outlet evolved as a brand over the years; one that has sustained the legacy of Rumpum noodles.
Rumpum, the brand that once competed against CG’s Wai Wai noodles, has gradually lost its market share. Especially in Kathmandu, Rumpum used to be available in every store at every corner of the city. Currently, Rumpum chapate is among the few places in the city that still sells Rumpum noodles.
Who knows? Maybe someday the chatpate outlet will be the epicenter of Rumupum’s rise back into the market!
